Saint Mahadeshwara Swamy

He came here to perform penance. When he arrived here from Srisailam, these forests were only inhabited by some indigenous tribes and wild animals. Mahadeshwara Swamy had reformed those indigenous tribes to civilised citizens in 15th century. Most of his followers were from Bedagampana community, who hailed from Baragur region of Tamil Nadu.
He played a major role in bringing Basavappa's principles to the masses, who lived in 12th century. He is said to have performed several miracles in his life, in these places.
It is believed that he is still performing penance in the temple's Garbha Gudi in the form of a Linga.  Besides his followers, other peoples also come here to worship Mahadeshwara Swamy.
A group of folk singers Kamsale, performs near the temple singing the tales of Mahadeshwara and his miracles. Kamsale is a unique folk art performed by the devotees of God Mahadeshwara
Kamsale artists have no printed literature, They learn those songs orally.
